Garden Goals:
To teach students as well as community members that gardening is a lifelong skill that contributes to healthy living.
Hired middle school students will grow produce in the summer months and the Gardening Class students in the spring and fall.
Farm to Table students will learn how to cook and experiment eating produce from the garden.
Farm to Table students will learn the different techniques of preserving vegetables such as canning, blanching and freezing, fermentation, drying, root cellaring.
Produce grown in the garden will supplement the school lunch menu.
Community member volunteers can take home some produce if they want to.
Gardening Class students will learn how to grow produce by learning the fundamentals from book and by practicing them hands-on. They will also learn from other gardeners through field trips to surrounding farms and gardens.
The project hopes to push the school district to get involved in the Farm to School program by buying fresh local food for better taste and nutrition, as well as supporting the local economy.
